Our First Hurdle to Getting into China

Well, we encountered our first hurdle yesterday in getting to China! They said only Nixon could go to China, well they may be right. Because Laura and I will not be flying into China, we are "walking" across the border from Vietnam to China, we don't have round trip tickets into and out of the country, so our local Chinese Visa office wouldn't process the Visa request.

There are alternatives that we are looking at, like getting a travel agency in Hanoi, Vietnam to book it which is recommended for the weary backpacker. Alternatively is flying into Hong Kong and getting it done there. Flights from Hanoi to Hong Kong run around $200pp so this is the last resort for obvious reasons.

Needless to say I need to relax and take things as they come. While I was at the office I found my blood pressure rising at this little inconveniance, which is nothing compared to what we might experience in other contries.
